When two boys met in kindergarten in the 80’s, it was immediately clear that they were in tune with each other. Even back then the world seemed puzzling, but these kids knew how to tackle it with imaginative stories and embellish it with their sense of creativity. Be it as detectives, jungle explorers or cowboys: what kept them going was their own interpretation and their own melody in life. At the far end of the city two other boys were playing in the same rhythm and with the same creative energy. At some point, all the building blocks, Legos, toy guns and Matchbox cars were exchanged for microphones, guitars, drums and bass and after long musical detours the four musicians found themselves in the same rehearsal room in Winterthur.
What the young men of FARLOW have preserved from their childhood is the urge to play their own melody and with that, the search for the perfect song. Today, they work as an inseparable entity and the sum of FARLOW is much more than its individual parts. A deep melancholy has superseded the carelessness and recklessness of childhood and their boyish exuberance has given way to a musical maturity. When the band evokes big questions of love, fear and hope their straightforward songs and catchy vocal harmonies pierce your heart. As a listener you feel as if hovering over an abyss, and yet you’re gently lifted and carried along, because FARLOW’s sad harmonies are always comforting. It works and does so without being corny and without the usual indie affectations. This music is authentic and honest, and the band’s grand emotions never seem clichéd.
In 2009, FARLOW set foot on Swiss stages with their beautifully sombre debut album “THE MOMENT NEVER COMES”. With their slightly rawer digital EP “MAKE ME SHINE” (2011) they remained true to their original sound. Both records were published by Saiko Records from Fribourg. The strengths of the band have also become evident during numerous live concerts and radio shows in the German and French speaking part of Switzerland. They have irresistible, subtle songwriting, clear vocals and thoughtful lyrics. The group definitely feels at home on stage, but the concerts are unfeigned and personal because of the band’s calm, self-confidence and natural understatement. FARLOW also convince audiences when they play intimate acoustic sets and perform their songs with quieter arrangements. Unimpressed by current trends and hypes, FARLOW do their own thing with a personal touch. And this is exactly how they want to seduce the current music scene.
